Venue and Location

The selected host city is one of the main touristic destination on Lago Maggiore, only 1 hour away from Milan. Stresa, the Queen of Lake Maggiore, lies in a splendid panoramic position under the green slopes of the Mottarone. The numerous villas, parks and gardens, the flowery lakeside promenade, the ever-changing spectacle
of the Borromean Islands, crowned by snow-capped mountains, make Stresa one of
the most important holiday resorts on the lake. In the 15th century the small village inhabited mostly by fishermen first became a fief of the Visconti family and was later acquired by the Borromeo family. Since the 19th century, the town was chosen as a stop on their Grand Tour by numerous intellectuals including Lord Byron, Stendhal and Charles Dickens.
Overlooking the ever-changing spectacle of the Borromean Islands, crowned with snow-capped pre-Alps, Stresa attracts, particularly during spring/autumn, a choice international clientele. The lakefront, ideal for relaxing walks, is lined with historic
mansions and luxurious Art Nouveau hotels surrounded by greenery. Meeting places
in Stresa are the Piazza dell’Imbarcadero and Piazza Marconi, both effervescent and
bustling.
The nearby Malpensa airport, the A26 highway and the Simplon international railway
facilitate the flow of tourists. The proximity of major centers, such as Milan and Turin
only 1 hour away, the Palazzo dei Congressi, the hotels that combine state-of-theart
equipment with a tradition of hospitality and ideal temperature, make Stresa
one of the most renowned resorts in Italy today.
